Jesus tells us “you are witnesses”. Indeed, we – like the disciples – are witnesses to the work of the Lord. As we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost we remember that Jesus has suffered, died, risen, and now been taken up into heaven. He has left us behind (for now), but not alone. He has sent us the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, to fill us with his life, and to bear witness to him. A witness is one who comes forward to say what has been seen, heard, and experienced. We are called to witness to Jesus here and now, sharing with others what we have seen, heard and experienced in our life with the Risen Lord. We truly can make a difference, raising others up through our confirmation that God loves us, that Jesus has saved us, and that the Holy Spirit continues to animate, encourage, guide and lead us. We are definitely not alone!

Bogdan Janski, Peter Semenenko and Jerome Kajsiewicz were witnesses to the resurrection of Jesus. They shared the story of their own dying and rising with Jesus. In their own lives that had experienced that gift of new life, and they knew that it was not restricted to them – it was for all. As we celebrate Pentecost, let us count on that Holy Spirit, given by God, so that we too may bear witness to the Risen Lord.
